Have you dealt with unsupportive people in your life throughout your health and fitness journey? Here are our top 3 tips for dealing with negative comments:
Tip number 1:
If someone is being unsupportive, you need to talk to them about it. For them, they may not realise that their comments are affecting you. What happens next will ultimately determine if they are a friend worth keeping. If a friend won’t change disrespectful behaviour, it’s time to distance yourself or question whether that friendship is worth your time and energy. Friends don’t have to understand your health and fitness journey, but like anything, they should be respectful of it. As long as what you are doing isn’t hurting anyone or hurting yourself, your friends should be supportive of it.
Tip number 2:
Quite often, people feel a lot of pressure in social settings to eat or drink. However, you do not have to do anything you do not want to do. If someone is pressuring you, be adamant in your response. If you don’t want to drink or eat something, be confident and firm in your answer. Say no without justifying that you are on a diet or doing a challenge. No is a complete and full answer.
Tip number 3:
It’s unfortunate, but acknowledge not everyone is going to be clapping for you in your health and fitness journey. But remember that you aren’t doing it for others, you are doing it for YOU. This is your life, and you aren’t living your life if you aren’t living it on your own terms. So, clap for your damn self!
